Overview
The nomad does not own the land. The nomad moves through it, takes what is needed, leaves with a knowledge of terrain that the settled person will never have. The Nomad Long Coat is a garment for that kind of movement: substantial enough for the journey, detailed enough to prove you were paying attention the whole time. The base is wool — a material built for climate, for travel, for the kind of cold that settles in at elevation. A block print runs across the wool surface, setting the visual ground. Hand embroideries are then applied over the print — motifs worked into the surface, not added on top of it. Khaddar borders run the coat's edges, joined by hand-woven borders layered on top. A hand-embroidered border around the perimeter completes the silhouette, and hand-embellished details across the body add the final points of light and texture. The collar is finished by hand. Wool and khaddar are both hand-labour materials. Building a coat from both, and then applying the further labour of block print, hand embroidery, and hand-woven border application, produces a garment that represents an extraordinary accumulation of craft time. It is designed to be the last coat you need — the one that justifies everything else in the wardrobe. The nomad travels light but travels well. This coat is the exception to the first rule, the proof of the second.
